Defending Big Ten Champion Wildcats Announce 2009 Home Promotions

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The No. 10 Northwestern softball team is a perfect 8-0 at home in 2009 with sweeps of No. 8 Michigan and No. 23 Iowa! More than 1,600 fans gathered at Sharon J. Drysdale Field during the Michigan series, enjoying the beautiful weather and participating in games, giveaways and music. Be sure to see the defending Big Ten Champions during one of the remaining four home games this season!
Admission and parking are free for all regular-season home games and tailgating is encouraged, so check out the special promotions the Wildcats have planned for this spring, including softball trading card giveaways, chances to win tickets to Wildcat football games, free t-shirts, running the bases after the games, playing catch with the team and much more! Sharon J. Drysdale Field was named the nation's best playing surface in 2008 by the NFCA, and it's just as great for the fans in the stands.
The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, April 22, when Northwestern will host Northern Illinois, beginning at 4 p.m. Come out and enjoy Football Day with the `Cats. Northwestern football players will be in attendance to sign autographs and take pictures.
At every weekend home game, fans can take part in all the fun:
Hi-Fives: Fans in the 8th grade and under can take the field during starting lineups.
In-Game Contests: Lucky fans will have the chance to win Wildcat Football tickets, IPOD Nanos, NU t-shirts and much more.
T-Shirt Toss: Be alert for flying t-shirts thrown throughout the game.
Singing: Stand up and sing the Wildcat Fight Song every time the Wildcats score.
Dancing: Join in the YMCA Dancing tradition during all home games.
Foul for a Fowl: All fans will receive a free chicken sandwich from Hecky's Barbecue in Evanston whenever they return a foul ball during the game.
Autographs: The Wildcat Team will be available for autographs after every home game.
In addition to the normal fun, the `Cats have much more planned throughout the season. Check out the special promotions this season!
April 22nd at 4 p.m. (Football Day)
Northern Illinois will slide into Evanston on April 22 for Football Day at the ball park. Fans can meet members of the Wildcat Football Team and have chances to win Football tickets for the 2009 season.
April 28th at 4 p.m.
The `Cats take on Chicago-rival DePaul at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
May 2nd at 1 p.m. (Tammy Williams Day)
The final home stand of the season will take place on May 2nd and 3rd as Northwestern welcomes Ohio State into town. On Saturday, May 2nd collect the final softball trading card in the series featuring Tammy Williams the 2006 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and 2008 Big Ten Player of the Year. All fans in attendance who collected all four softball trading cards will receive great Wildcat prizes.
After the game, fans can attend the 3rd Annual Purple Auction, immediately following our Ohio State game. The auction is a celebration of the 2009 team where our family, friends, players and fans can mingle. It is the softball team's biggest fundraiser of the year along with an opportunity for Northwestern to honor the seniors. The cost is $50 for adults, $20 for children under 16. May 3rd at 1 p.m. (Scout Day & Senior Day)
May 3rd is the final regular-season home game for four Wildcat seniors so arrive early to be part of the pregame presentation for this incredible senior class.
The Wildcats will host a post-game clinic for kids in the 8th grade and under. Kids can run the bases and play catch with members of the team. The clinic will begin directly following the game.
It's also Scout Day so all scouts are invited to cheer on the `Cats for this special day. All scouts in the 8th grade and under can go on the field for Hi-Fives during starting lineups, run the bases after the game and play catch with members of the team after the game.
