NORFOLK, Va. -- NU defeated Old Dominion University, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 11-2 on the season. The Wildcats posted a 1-1 record on their road trip in Virginia and look to continue their solid play Friday with the start of Big Ten conference action.

After dropping a close 4-3 decision to William & Mary Friday evening, Northwestern bounced back Sunday to snap Old Dominion's five-match win streak and leave Virginia with a win.

The `Cats won yet another doubles point, their 12th in 13 matches, to jump to a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs managed to grab the first point of doubles. Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska - Independent H.S.) and Tobias Reitz dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Aleksandr Seleznev and Tobias Fanselow, 8-3.

Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) evened it up for the Wildcats with an 8-3 performance at No. 2 over Mark Fawcett and Ben Marks. Northwestern's Andrew McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hills) and Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) clinched it with a tight, 8-6 win at No. 3 over Yakov Diskin and Alex Funkhouser.

In singles, ODU closed the gap and tied it up as Seleznev defeated Dwyer at No. 1, but the `Cats regained their lead thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 Reitz victory at No. 2 over the Monarchs' Fanselow.

Freshman Josh Graves dropped his first singles decision of the dual season, snapping a 10-match win streak, with a loss at No. 4 to ODU's Mark Fawcett, 6-0, 6-2.Wildcat Alexander Thams quickly came through with a victory at No. 3 over Yakov Diskin to put NU up, 3-2.

Junior captain Alex Sanborn clinched it for the `Cats with a straight set victory at No. 5 over the Monarchs' Funkhouser. The first set was competitive with the Wildcat pulling it out, 7-4, in a tiebreak, but he held onto the momentum and easily won the second, 6-1.

No. 6 singles was left unfinished with the NU's Andrew McCarthy leading Krzysztof Muzalewski, 7-6(4), 1-0.

The `Cats head back to the Midwest for the start of their conference slate this weekend. Big Ten play begins on the road at Illinois and Indiana on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
