EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Kate Drohan is one of 14 coaches named to the 2009 Women's National Team coaching pool, announced today (Feb. 6) by the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) and USA Softball.
The coaches have been selected for the 2009-2012 quadrennium and are responsible for the training and preparation for the Women's National Team program. The head coach selection will be announced at a later date.
Drohan is in her eighth season as head coach at Northwestern, entering the 2009 campaign with a 278-119-1 career record. Her .700 winning percentage ranks her 15th among active coaches in NCAA Division I. A two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year and head of the 2006 Speedline/NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year, Drohan's team has led the Big Ten in league wins in each of the last four seasons.
Drohan has taken the Wildcats to six-straight NCAA tournaments, advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals in each of the last four. Northwestern is the only private school in NCAA history to make the semifinals of the Women's College World Series in back-to-back seasons, a feat accomplished in 2006-07.
In the last five years, NU has won 10 Big Ten Player, Pitcher or Freshman of the Year honors. The Wildcats have won 10 All-America accolades in the last four seasons.
