EVANSTON, Ill. -- Rayna Stewart, Northwestern's defensive graduate assistant coach the past two seasons, has joined the Tennessee Titans' coaching staff as a defensive assistant-quality control.
Stewart rejoins the Titans after working with their coaching staff last summer as part of the NFL's Minority Coaching Fellowship program. Prior to joining the Wildcats' staff in 2007, he spent six seasons coaching in the high school ranks, including a stop at Centennial H.S. in Brentwood, Tenn.
Stewart was a fifth-round pick of the Houston Oilers (now the Titans) in 1996, where he played two seasons before joining Miami (1998) and Jacksonville (1999-2000). During his five-year career, he played in 71 games and recorded two interceptions as a defensive back and special teams standout.
While with the Wildcats, Stewart helped coach the defensive backs. This past season, all four secondary starters earned postseason honors. Northwestern finished the season 9-4 and played in the 2008 Valero Alamo Bowl.
