Blog Entry #3
February 13, 2009

Well 'Cat fans three days have gone by, and we are back at Midway just waiting to fly out again. I thought we would let you know what has been going on for the past few days while we were back in Evanston.

On Monday we had the day off, but that did not stop us from having some brief media training...

Every year our athletic communications department brings us together to fine tune our media skills. Naturally my skills are flawless, (the camera loves me) but Erin on the other hand is not so fortunate. Haha just kidding! Anyway, we got to watch funny videos, do mock interviews, and learn from other athletes' mistakes. Erin and I really liked the meeting, and it was great to get some tips on how to represent ourselves and the University in the best way possible.

Tuesday I walked outside with my usual hat, gloves, scarf and winter jacket on only to start sweating the instant I left. It was about 65 degrees here and the team jumped right back into practice on the Sharon J (which was named the nation's best playing surface last year!). Even though we still had our grass-growing tarp covering the outfield, we still had some fun and enjoyed being outside for a change.

Yesterday was just a standard day for me; I slept in till about 10, ran some errands with Erin, went to class, and then to practice. The great thing about Wednesday nights is that we get to do what is called the "Championship Circuit" after practice. Lauren Lappin, our assistant coach Erin mentioned earlier, introduced this lovely drill to our coaches and our goal is to do it as many times the Olympic team did. It basically consists of a lot of squats, lunges, jumps, runs and even a nifty slippery board that allows you to move your legs as fast as humanly possible. I know that probably makes no sense, but I have no other way to describe it. All I know is that when it is all over, and we have gone in a circle about five times I am a hot, sweaty mess!

Tomorrow we start the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic tournament in Las Vegas with games against Hawaii and UCLA. It is supposed to get pretty chilly, but do not worry we brought all of our cold gear and are ready to get after it! Make sure to watch Gametracker for those of you who can not attend this weekend! Thanks for your support! GO CATS!!!!!
