EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman Adrienne Monka (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week after her breakout weekend at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

In her second collegiate tournament, Monka hit the first four home runs of her career, batting .571 overall with a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage to lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 record at the Desert Classic.

Monka began the weekend with a double against Hawaii before hitting the first two home runs of her career against No. 4 UCLA, driving in four runs versus the Bruins. Monka then went deep in back-to-back games against Southern Utah and Cal State Fullerton, capping her weekend with a 3-for-4 performance versus the Titans.

Monka continues a Northwestern tradition of freshmen excelling early in their first season. Junior Lauren Delaney (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after her first collegiate weekend in 2007 while then-freshman Stephanie Churchwell was the conference's POW after the first weekend in 2005.
