Since last writing, we competed in a few good meets, including the TYR Invitational. As a team, we lost the TYR for the first time, but we definitely improved with each session. We started out pretty slowly on Friday morning, but by Friday night the team was doing pretty well and we were fighting. I think the meet showed us that we need to be prepared to swim at any time, just not when we feel like it. Because we started off slowly on Friday, and didn't place as many people into the finals as we should have, it might have cost us the meet. We definitely learned what we need to do to be ready for Big Tens, which is the same format as TYR.
I swam fine at TYR, and like the rest of the team, I got better with each session. I am not quite where I want to be at meets yet, but I have been training much faster in the last few weeks since TYR, so I am confident that I will be ready to get in 2010.
This past Saturday the team volunteered at The Salvation Army in Evanston, and the team really enjoyed giving back to the community regardless of how cold it was that morning. We also look forward to some good training and fun times when we head to the Olympic Training Center for our training trip. We leave at the end of Finals week, and I know everyone is looking forward to some time when we can just train, and not have to worry about school and other commitments. The year has gone by really quickly so far, and we are basically at the midpoint of our season right now. The last three seasons have flown by for me as well, and my only advice to our newcomers would be to do everything possible to put yourself in the position to succeed. Over training trip and in January and February it will be very important for everyone to get their rest so that they can recover and be ready to perform at the next practice or meet. So it's important not to waste time during this phase of the season, because any time wasted could be time spent recovering ("getting better").
Talk with everyone in the New Year! GO CATS!
Chris
