TAMPA, Fla. -- Northwestern held the first of two helmet-and-shell only practices Tuesday morning at Tampa Jesuit High School before heading over to the DeBartolo Team Luncheon to honor both squads.
The Wildcats' workout Tuesday morning went 12 periods and featured visits from Tampa Jesuit and Northwestern alumnus Chris Martin along with former Wildcat and 10-year NFL veteran Matt O'Dwyer. Outback Bowl representatives including Chairman Gwen Mitchell and her husband also were on hand to watch.
Following the practice, NU loaded up the busses and headed to the DeBartolo kickoff luncheon at the Tampa Convention Center. The luncheon featured speeches from both head coaches and various Outback Bowl representatives to a crowd of both teams and corporate sponsors.
Immediately afterwards, six Wildcats and both coordinators met with assorted press during an interview session.
After free time in the afternoon, players will load the busses once again and head to Game Works in Ybor City for a fun Tuesday night alongside the Auburn travel party. Northwestern will have another helmet-and-shell practice tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 30, before Beach Day in Clearwater, Fla.
