EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern freshman guard/forward Drew Crawford (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) was recognized Monday by being tabbed the Big Ten Player of the Week. He is the second Wildcat player to earn the award this season, joining John Shurna who earned the honor Nov. 30.
In just the eighth game of his collegiate career, Crawford netted a Big Ten season high and a Northwestern freshman record by scoring 35 points in a 90-65 victory over North Carolina A&T on Sunday.
He knocked down eight 3-pointers in the contest, contributing to the Wildcats' Big Ten-record 20 triples in the contest as a team. The eight triples are one shy of Craig Moore's school record for a game set a year ago at Brown. Crawford also added five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in the performance in just 25 minutes of action.
His first-half performance included six 3-pointers and 24 points. The point total was the highest for an NU player in a half since Moore had the same total in the contest at Brown.
Crawford ranks third on the team with an average of 9.4 points per game while leading the squad and ranking 11th in the Big Ten with a .529 field goal percentage.
Northwestern (7-1) returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts North Florida at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
