Northwestern Hosts Robert Morris in Exhibition Action Wednesday

Northwestern tips off its 2009-10 men's basketball season Wednesday evening as it hosts local foe Robert Morris (Ill.) University in an exhibition game at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Admission for the contest is just $10.

The Wildcats return four starters and 12 letterwinners overall from last year's squad which went 17-14 overall and advanced to the National Invitation Tournament. The Wildcats return 76.1 percent of their scoring and 86.4 percent of their rebounding. The 12 letterwinners returning tie the 'Cats with Michigan State for the highest total in the Big Ten.
Kevin Coble, a senior forward, was a consensus second-team All-Big Ten selection a year ago. He returns for his final season after averaging 15.5 points per game in 2008-09.
Junior point guard Michael Thompson is also back in the mix after leaving the team in assists each of the last two seasons. Thompson averaged 9.9 points and 3.7 assists per game while posting an impressive 2.19 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Bill Carmody is in his 10th season as the head coach at Northwestern. He is the second-winningest coach in school history and has a 120-149 record during his time in Evanston.
Robert Morris posted a 27-4 record last season and advanced to the semifinal round of the NAIA Division I tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Eagles already have a 1-1 record this season prior to dropping a 92-62 exhibition decision to Loyola Chicago Monday night.
Senior forward Reggie Bunch was the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's top rebounder last season, averaging nearly nine per game, and its third-leading scorer at 15.6 per contest. Al Bruehl is in his 13th season as the head coach at Robert Morris, notching a 274-78 record over that span.
