ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sam Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) and Jessica Palo (Ames, Iowa/Ames) each scored their first goal of the season as the Northwestern women's soccer team earned a 2-2, double-overtime draw with Michigan Sunday at the U-M Soccer Complex.
Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) assisted on both NU goals, recording the first points of her Northwestern career.
Northwestern (4-6-2) took 17 shots in the match and put eight of them on goal, both season highs for the 'Cats. After falling behind 2-0, the Wildcats put an 11-shot assault on the Michigan (5-6-1) net in the second half that resulted in a pair of goals.
Greene scored in the 50th minute with a chip shot over the defense from 15 yards out. Then just over five minutes later, the 'Cats tied the game courtesy of Palo. The senior was the recipient of a pass off the head of Dagley and sent the ball off a sliding defender and into the back of the net.
After combining for four goals in the first 55 minutes of the match, the teams played a scoreless 55 minutes to close it out. Northwestern put a pair of shots on goal in the first overtime - one each from Greene and Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) - but Michigan's Haley Kopmeyer stopped them both.
NU goalkeeper Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) made one save in the game.
The 'Cats continue their three-game road trip next weekend with a match at Penn State Friday night at 6 p.m. CT. Northwestern's game at Ohio State Sunday will be televised live on the Big Ten Network at 11 a.m. CT.
