ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern's run at the 2009 ITA Midwest Regional Championships came to an end Sunday afternoon. The tandem of Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck) and Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) fell to tournament host Michigan's Jason Jung and George Navas in the quarterfinals of doubles.
In the morning, the Wildcat duo defeated Notre Dame's Casey Watt and Tyler Davis, 8-6, in the round of 16 to set up a quarterfinal against Jung and Navas, the 27th-ranked team in the nation.
It was a close match, but the Wolverines managed to escape with an 8-6 victory to advance to the semifinals. Reitz and Sanborn's quarterfinal appearance improves upon last season, when Sanborn, paired with then senior Marc Dwyer, fell in the round of 16.

The Wildcats return to action the last weekend of October when they will head to Michigan State for the 2009 Big Ten Singles Championship.
