Northwestern Sweeps Home Fall Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern won a pair of games during its fall season finale Sunday at Sharon J. Drysdale Field, defeating Miami (Ohio), 3-1, and Loyola (Chicago), 13-2 (5).
Against the RedHawks, Michelle Batts (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) put Northwestern on top early with a two-run home run in the first inning. Freshman Lauren Ackerman (St. Louis, Mo./Home schooled) added a sacrifice fly in the fourth frame to account for Wildcats' three runs.
Junior Jessica Smith (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon) pitched five shutout innings to earn the win.
Northwestern used a 10-run third inning in the second game to defeat Loyola, 13-2 (5). Kelly Dyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) led off the scoring with a bases-loaded, two-run single in the bottom of the first. The Ramblers made it 2-1 before the Wildcats' 10-run explosion.
Nicole Pauly (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) led off the third with a solo home run. The rest of the scoring plays were comprised of an Olivia Zolke (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) RBI walk, an Ackerman sacrifice fly, a Megan Lilley (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) run-scoring double, an Emily Allard (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley) RBI single, a Jordan Wheeler (Garden Grove, Calif./Los Alamitos) two-run single, a Batts RBI groundout and a two-run homer from Emily Haug (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias).
The Wildcats added one more run in the bottom of the fourth to reach the 13-2 final. Freshman Meghan Lamberth (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) pitched four innings, allowing one run for the win.
Loyola (Chicago) defeated Miami, 8-2, in the middle game of the day.
