Northwestern Faces Off Against Carthage Saturday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels to Kenosha, Wis. to battle Carthage College in its first meet of 2009 at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Wildcats' series with the Redmen began as a split squad meet in past years, but will feature the full NU roster in 2009.
The Wildcats are coming into the new year carrying the momentum from their win against Dartmouth in late December during their annual holiday training trip. The Wildcats spent two weeks working out in Hawaii in what head coach Bob Groseth called "a very successful trip."
Carthage enters the meet after a win in the TYR/Collegeswimming.com Classic and is ranked No. 24 in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III poll.
Senior Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston), who already has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week twice this season, continues to be Northwestern's leader in the pool. Pacing the Wildcats in the backstroke has been senior Adam Beckman (Kearney, Neb./Kearney) while classmate and diver Alex Kiaie (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) works to continue his impressive season having already qualified for NCAA Zone competition.
