EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Tyrell Sutton (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) has accepted an invitation to play for the East team in the 2009 East-West Shrine Game at 3 p.m. CT Jan. 17 at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium.
Sutton is one of 10 players added to the East roster this week. NU's running back returned from a wrist injury suffered Oct. 25 to rush for 114 yards on 29 carries in NU's overtime loss Dec. 29 in the Alamo Bowl. Sutton also had five catches for 29 yards in the game.
Sutton is the 79th Wildcat to participate in the East-West Shrine Game dating back to 1927. He is the first 'Cat to join a roster for the game since Brett Basanez, Barry Cofield and Tim McGarigle in 2005.
Sutton concluded his senior season with 890 yards rushing in nine games, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and finding the end zone six times. He caught 35 passes for 305 yards and two scores to also rank as NU's fourth-leading receiver. Sutton was named an honorable mention All-Big Ten honoree by the conference coaches despite missing the final four league games.
