Wildcats Ready for Three Duals in Two Days

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern men's tennis returns to action this weekend at Combe Tennis Center as they host IUPUI and Western Illinois in a doubleheader at noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Illinois-Chicago at noon on Sunday.The Wildcats opened their spring season at home last weekend in a Sunday doubleheader, sweeping both Butler and Chicago with 7-0 victories.

Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid), Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) and Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska - Independent Study H.S.) led the 'Cats with 4-0 combined records in singles and doubles. The `Cats posted a 17-1 record, dropping only one doubles match.

This weekend, the Wildcats kick off the Saturday doubleheader against Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) at noon. IUPUI is 1-2 on the season thus far, but will face Illinois-Chicago on Friday evening. The Jaguars lost to SIU-Edwardsville and Marquette, 3-4 and 0-7, respectively, this past weekend. This will be the first meeting between the 'Cats and Jaguars.

They will next face in-state opponent Western Illinois at 6 p.m. The Leathernecks open their season earlier on Saturday, facing Marquette at 10 a.m. before heading to Evanston. The schools have met only once before with Northwestern emerging the victor.

Sunday at noon, the Illinois-Chicago Flames head to NU for an intra-city clash. The Flames currently have a 0-2 record, but are set to face IUPUI on Friday evening. The Wildcats look to remain undefeated against the Flames as they hold an 11-0 edge in the all-time series.
