Rispoli Claims Flight B Singles Championship at Wildcat Fall Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. -- In the last day of the Wildcat Fall Invitational, host Northwestern was represented in three of four finals and claimed the Flight B singles championship. Sophomore Peter Rispoli (Naples, Fla./St. Stephen's (Texas)) captured the Flight B title with an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Iowa's Tommy McGeorge.
In his first tournament of the season, Rispoli rolled through the bottom half of the Flight B draw and lost only one set in four matches en route to the championship. He also teamed with freshman Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) to advance to the Flight A doubles final, but the duo fell in an 8-4 match to the pair from Western Michigan.
Graduate student Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) had his season-opening unbeaten streak snapped at six matches when he lost in the Flight A singles semifinal to DePaul's Jose Moncada in a tough 6-4, 7-6(8) match. Senior Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) also fell in his Flight A singles semi, losing to eventual champion Christian Bierich of Iowa.
In the Flight B doubles championship, the tandem of Philip Kafka (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill) and Eric Spector (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) dropped a tight match to Big Ten opponents Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos of Iowa, 9-7.
Freshman Tobias Reitz's run in Flight B doubles ended in the semifinal as he fell to Iowa's McGeorge. Reitz and Thams paired up to later win a match in the consolation draw of Flight A doubles with a victory over Likitkumchorn and Miller of Toledo.
The 'Cats return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 as they travel to the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
