Northwestern Women's Soccer Game Notes (Loyola/DePaul) Get Acrobat Reader

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will not have to travel far this weekend as the `Cats are set to take on local foes Loyola (Chicago) in a road contest Friday before welcoming crosstown rival DePaul to Lakeside Field on Sunday. The 'Cats face the Ramblers at 6 p.m. Friday at Loyola Soccer Park and host DePaul at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Last Time Out
Northwestern traveled out to Malibu, Calif., and came away from the Pepperdine Nike Challenge with a 1-1 record. The Wildcats fell to San Diego, 3-2, on Friday before topping host Pepperdine by a 3-2 score in overtime on Sunday.

Against the Waves, the Wildcats trailed 2-0 heading into the second half and rattled off two goals in the second half to tie the score and then won it in overtime. Against San Diego, Amanda Hoffman notched her second goal of the year and Jessica Palo got into the 2008 scoring column. On Sunday, Emily Langston opened the scoring for the Wildcats and Jenny Dunn tied it up. Laura Janowitsch's game-winning goal won it for NU in overtime.

Scouting Loyola (Chicago)
Loyola (Chicago) sits at 2-4 on the season and will be hosting the Wildcats in its home opener Friday. Last time out, the Ramblers fell to Michigan State, 2-0, in East Lansing. Cynthia Morote-Ariza paces the Ramblers with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Jackie Vera also has three goals. Earlier in the season against Xavier, Morote-Ariza scored two goals and had three assists to climb atop Loyola's career goals and assists charts. In that game, Loyola scored five goals in a 10 minute span of the second half. In goal, Katie Groesch has played the bulk of the minutes and has a 1.40 GAA.

Scouting DePaul
DePaul sits at 1-5 on the season with its lone win coming in its latest contest against Western Illinois. Tara Strickland leads the Blue Demons with six points on two goals and two assists. Lauren Pagone, Jenna Fagerman, Dominique Locascio and Molly Borchardt are the other goal-scorers. In goal, Brittini Lally and Kelsey Hoinkes have split time with Hoinkes receiving most of the action with 12 saves and a 2.38 GAA. DePaul travels to Miami (Ohio) on Friday before facing the Wildcats at Lakeside Field on Sunday.

Goals From the Back Line
Senior defender Laura Janowitsch has used her senior season to break into the goal-scoring column. Janowitsch scored a goal from a free kick near midfield in NU's season-opening win over Nebraska for her first-career goal. The defender scored the game-winner for the Wildcats in their 3-2 overtime win over Pepperdine last Sunday.

Happy To Help
Sophomore Sam Greene assisted on three of the Wildcats five goals last weekend at the Pepperdine Nike Invitational. Greene notched an assist in the `Cats loss to San Diego and then came through with two helpers in NU's overtime win over Pepperdine. Against the Waves, Greene helped the Wildcats' first two goals including the game-tying score. Her three assists lead the team.

Distributing the Wealth
Through three games this season, 10 Wildcats have notched points on 10 total goals. Senior Jenny Dunn leads the way with 6 points (2g, 2a). Senior Laura Janowistch is second on the team with five points (2 g, 1a). Both Amanda Hoffman and Emily Langston have four points on two goals each.

Off to a Great Start
Senior Jenny Dunn's game-tying goal against Pepperdine the 15th goal of her career. After the graduation of Kelsey Hans and Shannon Schneeman, who sit at first and third on NU's all-time career goals list, respectively, Dunn is the `Cats' active leader in goals. Dunn is one goal from cracking NU's top-10. With 42 career points, Dunn sits ninth on NU's all-time points list.

Second-Half Firepower
Seven of NU's 10 goals have been scored after halftime. In the season-opener against Nebraska, the Wildcats put up four goals in route to a 4-3 win at Lakeside Field. NU's lone goal in a 1-0 win over Illinois State in the Lakeside Invitational came early in the second half while all three of NU's goals in a 3-2 overtime win over Pepperdine came after the break.

First-Timers
Out of NU's four second-half goals against Nebraska, three were Wildcats' first-career goals. Senior defensive mainstay Laura Janowitsch and senior midfielder Amanda Hoffman both recorded their first-career goals in the win. Wildcat freshman Emily Langston notched her first goal in her first game. Hoffman, Janowitsch, Langston and Jenny Dunn, lead the Wildcat attack with two goals each.

Welcome Back
After missing all of 2007 due to injury, Leigh Jakes made her return to the playing field in the `Cats' 2008 season-opener. Jakes, a 2006 Big Ten All-Freshman selection, registered an assist from the back line in her first action since the 2006 season.
