EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fans of the purple-and-white got up close and personal with head coach Pat Fitzgerald and the entire Wildcat team Friday night during "Meet the Team" night at Ryan Field. Northwestern players posed for pictures with fans young and old, signed autographs, and even led fans through several rousing rounds of Bingo.
Wildcat faithful came out in large numbers to show their support for the team in advance of next Saturday's season opener at home against Syracuse. Coach Fitz got things started at the podium by discussing the progress Northwestern has made during preseason camp and announcing the team's 2008 captains: quarterback C.J. Bachér, wide receiver Eric Peterman, linebacker Prince Kwateng, and safety Brendan Smith.
After that, players and fans hit the field for more than an hour for a variety of activities. A few young players were treated to the finer points of placekicking by senior Amado Villarreal while others participated in footraces hosted by the linebacker corps. Up on Randy Walker Terrace, defensive backs played fans in games of Cornhole while sophomore corner Justan Vaughn enthusiastically called numbers for a few dozen fans in Bingo.
