RICHLAND, N.J. -
Eamon O'Neill scored a pair of goals and Carl Pett added another as the Northwestern men's soccer team outlasted Villanova for a 3-2 win Tuesday afternoon in the first match of NU's preseason trip to New Jersey.
The win was the second for the Wildcats in as many exhibition contests so far this season. Northwestern posted a 4-0 home win over Lewis University last Saturday.
O'Neill tallied the only goal of the opening half for either team. Geoff Fallon played a corner kick into the box where Cody Stanley headed the ball to O'Neill who was able to put it past the Villanova keeper.
The junior forward notched his second goal of the match and third of the exhibition season in the second half following a through ball from Piero Bellizzi.
Pett concluded the scoring with what proved to be the game-winning tally when he scored off a service from Fallon from the flank.
Freshman Jonathan Harris made three saves to pick up the win between the pipes for NU.
The Wildcats conclude their exhibition season Saturday when they take on St. John's in Pomona, N.J., at Richard Stockton College, the alma mater of Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Central.
