Box Score

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern registered eight shots and Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) made two saves between the pipes as the Wildcats played Louisville to a 0-0 tie in the season's lone exhibition contest Wednesday at Lakeside Field. The Wildcats open the regular season at home against Nebraska on August 22.

A total of 21 Wildcats saw the field including eight of the team's nine freshmen. The exhibition also saw the return of Leigh Jakes (McDonough, Ga./Eagle's Landing) to the game field. Edwards, the only goalie on the team with regular season playing experience, picked up the shutout and played all 90 minutes.

Northwestern held the Cardinals at bay during the first half by allowing only two shots -- none on goal -- in the opening frame. Although she only didn't record a save in the first half, Edwards owned her goalbox and slid in front of attackers on several occasions to take possession.

Junior Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) had the 'Cats best scoring chance in the first half and forced a point blank save by the Cardinals' keeper.

The second half saw both teams struggle to find offense, but business picked up in the closing minutes of the second half. Edwards made a save on a point blank opportunity before the Wildcats had a similar chance on the other end under the two-minute mark.

Herczeg and Sam Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) paced the 'Cats with two shots each. Jeanette Lorme (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus) had a header opportunity and Amanda Hoffman (North Tustin, Calif./Foothill), Emily Langston (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and Nicole Duller (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) also recorded shots.

Northwestern opens its 2008 season with three straight home games. The Wildcats kick things off at 5 p.m. Friday, August 22, against Nebraska.
