EVANSTON, Ill. -- Beth Combs, head coach of Northwestern University's women's basketball team for the past four seasons, has resigned in order to pursue other personal and professional opportunities. Northwestern Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips made the announcement today.
"We want to thank Coach Combs for her service to Northwestern and the effort she gave our women's basketball program," Phillips said. "We wish her and her family the very best."
"Four years ago, I had the honor of being named the head women's basketball coach at Northwestern," Combs said. "Today, I resign from my position knowing that I am leaving this program in a better place. I thank Mark Murphy and Henry Bienen for their trust and faith in me. I thank everyone who worked so hard everyday to make our program better, and I also want to thank Jim Phillips for his support in my decision."
Combs compiled a 24-95 overall record, and a 7-59 mark in Big Ten play. This past season, the Wildcats were 5-26 overall, 1-17 in conference action.
A national search for her successor will begin immediately.
