EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Tammy Williams (Roscoe, Mo./Osceola) has been named a first-team All-America selection at shortstop, announced today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The honor is Williams' second-consecutive first-team nod and the third overall All-America accolade of her career.

Northwestern now has earned 10 total All-America honors over the past four seasons.

Williams joins Lisa Ishikawa (1984-85, 1987) and Garland Cooper (2005-07) as Northwestern's three-time NFCA All-America honorees. Williams and Ishikawa are the only two with multiple first-team nods. In addition to being a first-team at-large selection in 2007, Williams was a third-team award winner as a freshman.

Williams broke school records for batting average and on-base percentage in 2008, hitting .440 while reaching base at a .538 clip. She led the nation in batting until the final weeks of the season while also ranking among the nation's leaders in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hit by pitch and runs scored.

Williams was one of 10 finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year award and was named the 2008 Big Ten Player of the Year.
