Rowley to Join Wildcats for 2008-09 Season

Northwestern head men's basketball coach Bill Carmody has announced the signing of Kyle Rowley (Arima, Trinidad/Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats for the 2008-09 season.
Rowley joins previous signees Davide Curletti (Farmington Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's), Nick Fruendt (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), Luka Mirkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.)) and John Shurna (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) in the Wildcats' five-member incoming freshman class.
"We're thrilled with Kyle's decision to be a Wildcat," Carmody said. "He has worked tremendously hard to improve his game over the past two years, and as a result has developed himself into one of the top recruits in the country. Kyle is a physical presence who will be able to step on the court and compete immediately. He has an excellent understanding of the game and is a very skilled passer out of the low post, which is very important to our offense."
Rowley, a 7-foot, 280-pound center, chose Northwestern over the likes of Indiana, Georgetown, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Oregon State. He was rated by a number of recruiting services as the top collegiate prospect in the state of Illinois in the class of 2009 before recently deciding to enroll in college for the 2008-09 academic year. Rowley has accumulated enough credits to graduate from high school this spring.
This past year at Lake Forest Academy, Rowley was named the co-Player of the Year of the Independent School League and was a first-team all-conference selection after averaging 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots per game.
He competed for Trinidad and Tobago's under-18 national team in the summer of 2007 and was invited to participate in the elite NBPA Top 100 Camp this summer prior to declaring himself as a collegiate prospect for 2008.
