Wildcats Begin To Close-Out Big Ten Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern (7-9, 0-3) is set to host a pair of dual matches this weekend in a continuation of its Big Ten schedule. The Wildcats will welcome 16th-ranked Illinois at noon Saturday, March 29, before hosting 66th-ranked Purdue at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 30.

Northwestern is coming off an impressive win after a 6-1 defeat of Lamar on Tuesday. The Wildcats hope to bring that momentum into this weekend as they close out their Big Ten schedule.

Beginning this weekend, the 'Cats will partake in seven-consecutive conference matches to conclude the season before Big Ten Championships. Northwestern is still searching for its first Big Ten victory this season. Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./Independent Study H.S.) has recorded the only Big Ten singles victory, while the Wildcats hold a 3-6 doubles record.

Illinois (9-5, 2-0) lost its last dual at 13th-ranked Pepperdine, 4-3. Northwestern trails in the all-time series with the Fighting Illini, 38-50-2.

Purdue (7-7, 1-1) lost in its last match at Western Michigan, 6-1. The Wildcats have faired well against the Boilermakers in their program history, holding the all-time series lead 61-17-2.

After this weekend, the Wildcats return to action at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take-on the second-ranked Buckeyes of Ohio State.
