EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern sophomore forward Kevin Coble (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) and junior guard Craig Moore (Doylestown, Pa./Lawrenceville (N.J.) Prep) were each named honorable mention All-Big Ten on Monday when the Conference's postseason awards were handed out. It is the first such honor for both individuals.
Each individual was a previous Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree, with Moore picking up the award in 2006 and Coble earning it in 2007.
Coble, who earned the honorable mention selection from both the conference's head coaches and media, was recognized despite missing Northwestern's first nine games this season while helping his mother, Carlys, with her treatments for breast cancer.
He was the Big Ten's fifth-leading scorer during conference play, averaging 15.2 points per game, including a pair of 30-plus point performances. Coble tallied 34 points against Michigan Jan. 12 and then tied a Welsh-Ryan Arena record by scoring 37 points against Indiana Feb. 23.
Moore, who earned the selection from the media, has put together a stellar all-around season. In league play, he finished first in 3-point makes per game (3.11), second in steals (1.94) and 10th in scoring (13.1). Moore ranks fourth in the conference in all games with an average of 35.24 minutes played and 10th with a norm of 3.17 assists per game.
His 94 3-pointers made and 234 attempted are both Northwestern single-season records. Moore knocked down a school-record eight 3-pointers in a win at Michigan Feb. 26 and had seven to go along with a career-high 28 points against Michigan State Jan. 24.
Additionally, Sterling Williams was named Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Northwestern (8-21, 1-17) opens Big Ten tournament play at 4 p.m. Central time Thursday when it faces Minnesota at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
