Northwestern stayed with 11th-ranked Notre Dame in doubles and on several singles courts, but fell 7-0 to the Fighting Irish Thursday at Combe Tennis Center. Alex Sanborn and Peter Rispoli both forced third sets in singles.

At No. 2 singles, Sheeva Parbhu took the first set from Alexander Thams, 6-4, but the graduate student for the Wildcats managed to force a second-set tiebreaker. The "first to seven" formatted tiebreaker needed extra points to determine a winner. Parbhu won the breaker 10-8 to avoid a match tiebreaker and give ND a 6-0 lead in the dual.

With one match left on the courts, all eyes turned to the match at No. 3 singles where Sanborn, who had fallen in the first set, 6-3, but took the second set, 6-2, was trailing 5-4 in the third. Sanborn held serve to make Roth have to serve for the match. Sanborn fought to force 40-30 in the final game, but fell 6-4 in the third set and the 11th-ranked Irish took the dual, 7-0.

Marc Dwyer has anchored the top of the Wildcats' lineup this season and is 4-2 in dual matches. Sanborn, who has played at No. 3 and No. 4, is 5-1 on the year.

In doubles, the No. 2 team of Rispoli and Thams is 4-2 through six matches.

After facing Bradley, the Wildcats will head to Virginia for matches against Virginia Commonwealth and William & Mary beginning Saturday, Feb. 9.
