
Northwestern Defeats Dartmouth, 117-48, in Training Trip Dual

HONOLULU -- Northwestern defeated Dartmouth, 117-48, Monday in its annual training trip dual meet. The two teams met at the pool on the campus of the University of Hawaii.
The Wildcats won all nine events in the abbreviated competition, sweeping six individual swimming races, a diving event and two relays.
Senior Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) won both the 100 back and 500 free for NU. Alex Tyler (Birmingham Groves, Mich./Birmingham Groves) took the 200 IM, Sean Mathews (St. Louis, Mo./Lafayette) brought home the 100 fly, Truman Liang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hunter College High School) was first in the 100 free and John Franklin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./North Broward Prep) captured the 100 breast.
In diving, senior Alex Kiaie (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) won the 1-meter competition by a slim 3.85-point margin with a score of 299.85.
While NU swept both the 400 medley and 400 free relays, the freestyle event was dramatic for the 'Cats. The team of Liang, Mathews, Nilsson and Peter Park (Princeton, N.J./Peddie School) edged NU's second entry by just .02 of a second to win in 1:25.13.
Northwestern returns to action at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, Jan. 10, when it travels to Carthage College.
