What a great weekend! Let's start with the Banquet. It was a bittersweet feeling being a senior and knowing this was my last banquet. Yes, I am really happy with how the season has gone thus far, and yes, it feels good knowing that I have left my stamp on this program, but there are also a bunch of stuff I am going to miss. For those who where at the banquet, you heard C.J. really harp on some of the positives and negatives that come with being a senior. You also heard C.J. talk about what it was like being a young player in the program. What you guys should all know, is that everything he said was true. Like every other senior, I was once a young a guy too, and although the winning edges, the camp Kenosha's, the 500lb squats, the 5 a.m. wakeups all seemed terrible at the time, I am really going to miss them. Its funny, being a freshman, a sophomore, and even a junior, you never fully appreciate the banquet. It almost seems like it's never going to be your turn up there, and it's really no big deal. But soon enough, both the underclassmen and their parents will truly realize just how special your senior banquet really is. However, I don't want anyone feeling too sorry for me, we have still have two weeks of practice left, and a BOWL GAME TO WIN!
Practice went well. The coaches pushed the tempo on us in preparation to get our bodies back in the swing of things. Once again I tried to open the garage door in the Annex (where the big guys practice), but once again I was shot down by the ruthless Melissa. This time however, Mel had an explanation on why we had to keep the garage shut. Mel explained that it was because we would be playing in a dome for the bowl game and needed to get use to playing inside. This may have some truth to it, but I still think Mel likes to keep warm herself and also slightly enjoys putting the O-line and D-line through more suffering than we already endure. I really enjoyed the team periods of practice today. I felt like there was a lot of juice among the players and coaches. Some players with standout performances today include: AD (Alex Daniels), Hunter Bates (had like 50 tackles today in scrimmage period), Colin Armstrong, Neil Deiters, Quentin Williams and Jeravin Matthews. It was a really good feeling to see some of the younger guys really take bowl practice as an opportunity to get better and get that much more prepared for spring ball.
Tonight most of the team went to the Blackhawks game. It was a great game. The Blackhawks were trailing late in period 2 when we got our first goal to tie Columbus. Early in the third we scored another, and late in the third we score our third. Blackhawks won 3-1. It was a lot of fun going to the United Center and watching the Blackhawks beat Columbus (we have a couple of obnoxious Ohio guys on our team), and it was really nice of the Blackhawks organization to donate box seats to our whole team.
On a final note, it was great meeting a lot of the parents at the banquet and I look forward to seeing you guys at the Alamo Bowl. Thanks for reading.
