MADISON, Wis. -- In Sunday's play, Northwestern's two remaining players dropped their main draw matches at the Big Ten Singles Championship hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Freshman Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/ Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck) won three matches on the day and advanced to the consolation singles semifinal.

In a grueling day, Reitz played three consecutive matches and posted two victories before falling to Michigan's George Navas in the semifinal match, 7-5, 5-7, (10-4). Reitz's consolation victories, including one on Saturday, were all in straight sets over MSU's Brendan Kinkopf, Purdue's Griffin Nienberg and Minnesota's Jake Annear.

In other singles consolation action, Andrew McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Indian Hill) advanced to the second round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Penn State's Jake Toole. He then dropped his second round match to the host Badgers' Michael Muskievicz.

Junior Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) dropped his first round consolation match to eventual finalist Navas of Michigan, 6-3, 7-6(6).

In main draw play, both Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska - Independent Study H.S.) and Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) were unable to sustain their momentum through to the quarterfinals.

Dwyer fell to No. 10 John Allare of Michigan State in a match that came down to a few crucial points, 2-6, 6-5, 7-6(4). Thams also took the first set off his opponent, No. 2 seeded Hoosier Lachlan Ferguson, but failed to capitalize and lost the next two sets.

Complete results from the tournament can be found here.

This tournament wraps up Northwestern's fall season. The 'Cats will begin their dual season in January, hosting Butler and Chicago at Combe Tennis Center on January 18.
