EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is ranked No. 22 in the first Bowl Championships Series standings, released today by the BCS.

The Wildcats are ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 26 in the Harris Interactive poll. In the six computer rankings, the Wildcats achieved an average ranking of No. 19.

Northwestern earned a program-best No. 15 BCS ranking on Nov. 6, 2000.

In addition to the Wildcats, three other Big Ten schools appear in the initial BCS standings: Penn State (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 9) and Minnesota (No. 24). Northwestern is sandwiched between BYU (No. 21) and Kansas (No. 23) in the season's first BCS ranking.

The Wildcats play Indiana at 11 a.m. CT this Saturday, Oct. 25, in Bloomington.
