What do you think so far of the transition from playing high school to college football?
"It's a lot different. They are two different games. The level of competition is just much higher. Everyone is big, fast and strong now, and you can't get away with the things you used to get away with. As for the Big Ten, it is the most physical football you can find. They don't mess around."
How has the current receiving corps, anchored by four seniors, Eric Peterman, Ross Lane, Rasheed Ward and Jeff Yarbrough, helped you make this transition and be successful in the spread offense?
"They are great. Eric and I play the same position, and we spent a lot of time together this summer. I learned a lot from him before the season and it's carried over into the year. Eric and Andrew Brewer have been teaching me a lot about how to play the wide receiver position at Northwestern. They've been a big help and without them I wouldn't be where I am today."
Now that classes have started, how is the transition to being a student-athlete been?
"It's hard. It's way different from high school. You really have to stay on top of your reading and get your work done when you have time. It's a whole different world, but I'm staying on top of it."
What do you think of your coaching staff, and how have they been helping you?
"They've been great. I've been getting some playing time. The fact that they are comfortable with me playing has really helped me out. They also really know what they are talking about. It's been really fun."
You are one of only two true freshmen playing so far this season. How did it feel to have the first receiving touchdown for the team on your first college reception, and how does it feel to have your number called often and be relied on so early?
"It's great. I like having the extra responsibility on my shoulders. I was a quarterback in high school so I'm used to having the pressure. I'm really enjoying it. I also like having a good role in the offense; it definitely makes me feel important. It's a great opportunity, and I like being that kind of person."
Ross Lane has always been a big target in the end zone with his height, but after your first touchdown, it seems like you may have that knack for scoring TD's. Is your number going to be called more often when the 'Cats hit the red zone?
"The first touchdown was planned, but most of the other opportunities have been scrambles or rolls, trying to get away from people and C.J. has been trying to find me. I'm doing what I can, and I love catching touchdown passes, so if they keep throwing them to me, that doesn't bother me a bit."
Any other thoughts?
"Go 'Cats!"
