EVANSTON, Ill. -- Five former Northwestern gridiron stars remain in the hunt for a Super Bowl ring following the opening weekend of the NFL Playoffs.

Three of the four victorious teams in Wild Card contests last weekend feature Wildcats on their rosters. 2004 graduate Luis Castillo is a defensive line starter for the San Diego Chargers, while 2005 graduate Barry Cofield starts on the defensive line for the N.Y. Giants. 2000 graduate Kevin Bentley is a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

Also still alive in the playoffs are a pair of Wildcats in Green Bay, 2004 graduate Noah Herron (who is on injured reserve) and 2006 graduate Ryan Keenan (who recently was signed to the Packers' practice squad).

A third Northwestern starter in the playoffs, Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive lineman Trai Essex, bowed out with his squad following a loss to Jacksonville on Saturday.
