Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
Opening Statement...
"Texas-Pan American is a well-coached team. They came in here and had an idea of what to do against our defense, and I think they executed very well. In the first half they defended very well."
On Northwestern's play in the first half...
"A couple guys, Mike Thompson and Kevin Coble, were trying to be aggressive, but almost too quickly so we had some turnovers. At halftime we said, 'Let's simplify. Let's start going north and south, drive the ball and get to the inside, rebound and get the ball up court. We got some easy baskets before they got back and that really helped us a lot."
On the play of sophomore Jeremy Nash...
"I think Jeremy did a real nice job. He had a nice tip that they took away and he had a nice steal. He's a presence at the top of the zone. He's a little quicker jumper than Sterling (Williams), and it's a nice change when I can alternate those guys."
On his team's response after the loss at Illinois...
"It was a drubbing we had against Illinois, so you start to question yourself as players a little bit. You can see that they were tentative out there. They finally broke out of it in the second half. Thompson was pushing the ball down the court, helping other guys out, keeping it when he should, so that was good. Kevin (Coble) finally got into the flow of it a bit in the second half, and we cut down on our threes."
On Jeff Ryan play improving...
" We talked about that before the game. He's the guy that has to come around for us. He's fast, he's 6'6". He has to try something and not be afraid to mess up."
