Box Score

CHICAGO -- Craig Moore scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half and Kevin Coble had a solid all-around performance with 19 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as Northwestern pulled away in the second half to beat Chicago State 65-47 on Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

Coble, who set a record during the eight-year Bill Carmody era with 34 points against Michigan last Saturday, tied another mark with his 14 boards. The total matched the standard set by current NU assistant coach Tavaras Hardy against Pepperdine Dec. 16, 2000.

Both teams shot under 35 percent from the field in the first half as the squads took a 24-24 tie into the break. Northwestern had the largest lead of the half for either team at just four points in the uneven period. Coble tallied half of the Wildcats' point total during the opening stanza.

Northwestern took control of the game with a 14-3 run to start the second half with Moore keying the rally with 10 points during the spurt. The Wildcats never led by less than eight points the rest of the way as they shot 55.2 percent (16-for-29) after the break. Coble had seven points, eight rebounds and six assists following the intermission.

David Holston, who entered the game as the nation's ninth-leading scorer at 23.4 points per game, had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists for Chicago State (6-14). Freshman Carl Montgomery added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Cougars lost for the sixth time in eight games.

Moore broke out of a shooting slump by tying his season high with six 3-pointers in nine attempts. Northwestern finished with a 17-3 advantage in points off turnovers as it forced 15 CSU miscues while giving the ball up just eight times itself.

NU finished with a 36-34 advantage in the game, including 19-11 in the second half. Northwestern handed out 12 assists and turned the ball over just three times over the final 20 minutes of play.

The Wildcats return to Big Ten play at 8 p.m. Saturday when they travel to Wisconsin. The contest will be televised live by Big Ten Network.
