EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern fell to ninth-ranked Penn State, 5-0, in its second-straight Big Ten road contest on Sunday at State College, Pa.

The Nittany Lions (7-4, 1-1) benefited from a goal on a deflection, a loose ball in front of the cage and a goal off of a penalty corner in the first twenty minutes of the game, which propelled them to a 4-0 first-half lead and the eventual victory over the Wildcats (3-6, 0-2).

Freshman Katie Lynch (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) came into the contest in the second half for the first time in her career and allowed just one goal in six shots, making five saves for the 'Cats. Lynch recorded five of the 'Cats seven saves on the day in the 35 minutes that she played.

Senior Cassie Miller (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) was able to return the team and play in the game after missing the previous contest with an injury. Four freshmen saw significant minutes in the game as well, including Zoe Almquist (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), who got her first career start playing in the midfield for the 'Cats. Almquist saw her first action of the year last week against Michigan State.

In the eighth minute of the contest, Northwestern put a tremendous amount of pressure on Penn State's keeper, but could not knock the ball to the back of the cage. The 'Cats first shot came on a penalty corner and was taken by Christina Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Mass./Cape Elizabeth). NU then quickly earned two more penalty corners early in the half, which led to a shot by Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass/Watertown) that was saved.

Northwestern's next two games are at Lakeside Field on Friday against Iowa at 3 p.m. and Sunday against Providence at 1 p.m.
