EVANSTON, Ill.-- A goal by Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Ky./Kentucky County Day) brought Northwestern within one goal of Iowa, but two more goals before the half gave the Hawkeyes a 4-1 lead, which ended the 'Cats comeback hopes with a 5-1 loss on Friday at Lakeside Field.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Lynch (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) played an outstanding game in goal and set the conference-high mark in saves in a single game with 14. The game marked the first start in Lynch's career.
Also starting for the first time in her career was Stacy Uchida (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), who ended up playing the entire game for the 'Cats.
Following Plaster-Strange's goal, Iowa's Lauren Pfeiffer tipped a goal in off of a rebound, which was added on to by Caroline Blaum on a goal that bounced in after deflecting off a Northwestern defender.
In the second half, Northwestern attemped a late charge with four penalty corners and five shots on goal, but could not blast one past the Iowa keeper.
Plaster-Strange took five shots overall on the day to go along with her goal, while multiple shots were fired at the goal by Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) and Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown).
