LOS ANGELES -- In its first match away from home in 2007, Northwestern ran into the hosts of the Loyola Marymount Four Points Sheraton LAX Classic Friday night, falling to the Lions in a sweep, 30-26, 30-22, 30-25.

The loss was Northwestern's first of the season, dropping it to 2-1. Loyola Marymount improved to 2-2 with the victory in the first match for both schools at the Four Points Sheraton LAX Classic.

Loyola Marymount took the early lead on its home court, gradually opening a 13-7 lead before Northwestern head coach Keylor Chan called a timeout. Shortly after the break, junior Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) turned it on at the net, notching three kills during a 5-1 Wildcats' run that included a solo block from Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) to bring NU back within a pair, 15-13, and force an LMU timeout.

The Lions clawed their way back into a five-point advantage, 26-21, causing NU's second timeout of the game. When the deficit hit six, 28-22, the Wildcats ran off four-straight points courtesy of two Anderson kills and a solo block and kill by Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) to again close to within two, 28-26, but LMU scored the final two points of the game to win, 30-26.

Loyola Marymount again caused the first timeout in game two after taking a 14-9 lead that eventually expanded to eight, 20-12. Northwestern responded with an 8-3 run featuring kills from Anderson, Hyser and Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chaparrel) to make the deficit three, 23-20, but LMU pulled away for a 30-22 game two win.

The Wildcats came out of the locker room for game three with a bit of a different look, giving freshman setter Elyse Glab (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) the first action of her collegiate career.

Northwestern's first four points of game four came courtesy of the block, but with the score knotted, 4-4, Loyola Marymount unleashed a 9-2 run to force a Northwestern timeout with the score 13-6. Immediately out of the timeout, Aldridge and Brittani Gray (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) notched kills during a 3-0 Northwestern spurt. A bit later in the game, Anderson annihilated three kills in a row to pull the 'Cats back to within spitting distance, 16-14, and cause an LMU timeout.

The Lions again responded to the Wildcats' run, forcing Chan to use his second timeout of the third game when the score reached 22-18. LMU was able to keep NU at arms length the rest of the way, winning game three, 30-25.

Anderson racked up nine of her team-high 18 kills in the third game, while Glab had 16 assists to equal her teammate Stephanie Jurivich's (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) match total.

Anderson finished with a double-double, adding 11 digs to her kill total. Sophomore Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) had a team-best 17 digs, while Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) and Ariel Baxterbeck (Menlo Park, Calif./Castilleja) joined her in double-digits with 11. Aldridge had a team-best six blocks.

Northwestern returns to action at noon CT tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 1, against UNLV. The Wildcats then close out the Four Points Sheraton LAX Classic at 7 p.m. CT Saturday versus UC Santa Barbara.
