MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) captured a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, but the Wildcats fell Friday to the 36th-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers, 6-1. The 'Cats continue their final road trip at Noon Sunday against Iowa.

Minnesota captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to take an early 1-0 lead. Each match was decided by three games or less. The Wildcats showed a very different doubles lineup with Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkiad) and Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./Univ. of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) in the No. 1 spot.

The pair, playing at No. 1 for the first time this season, fell to Nich Edlefsen and Sion Wilkins, 9-7. The Wildcats took a break early, but the Gopher duo broke back to tie the match 7-7. Minnesota captured the next two games to take the match.

NU's lone doubles win came at No. 3 where the pair of Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lobrugge) and Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico) topped D.J. Geatz and Chi Pham in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (6).

At No. 2, the duo of Lock and Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) fell 8-5 to Mikey Kantar and Raoul Schwark.

Northwestern tied the dual at 1-1 when Lock topped Andres Osorio at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0. However, Minnesota reclaimed the lead when the 73rd-ranked Schwark defeated Tempke at No.1, 6-2, 6-2.

Edlefsen downed Dwyer in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, and Geatz defeated Gomez in two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Christian, playing at No. 5 for the first time this season, took the first set from Kantar, 6-0, but fell in three sets to the Gopher, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.

At No. 6, Sanborn took Wilkins to a third-set superbreaker, but the Gophers captured the last match on the courts when Wilkins topped the freshman, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7).

The Wildcats return to action at Noon Sunday against Iowa.
