EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's spring season is well underway, with the Wildcats scheduled to participate in four tournaments during its five-week offseason session.
NU's first practice took place Monday, March 26, and the Wildcats will continue until its final tournament on Saturday, April 28.
"Our two primary goals this spring are to provide our freshmen with match experience and build a cohesive team for next fall," head coach Keylor Chan said. "The four tournaments we are playing should provide our team the opportunity to better our match play, promote individual skill development and sharpen our team systems. We are looking forward to a very successful spring that will lay a foundation for a very successful fall."
Northwestern's first tournament is the Palos Courts Tourney March 31, then the Wildcats travel to Michigan for the University of Michigan Tourney on April 7. NU will participate in the Sports Performance Tourney on April 14, then take a week off from competition before concluding the spring at the University of Cincinnati Tourney on April 28.
Northwestern will return a ton of experience in 2007, including a big group of four seniors: Middle blocker Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire), outside hitter Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), setter Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) and outside hitter Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee).
Also returning are junior middle blocker Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere), who set the school single-match record for blocks last year, and sophomore libero Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg), who was an All-Big Ten freshman team selection in 2006.
