'Cats Ready to Host No. 30 Arkansas Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will end a seven-match homestand to start the 2007 dual season when it welcomes 30th-ranked Arkansas to the Combe Tennis Center at 6 p.m. Friday. The 'Cats sit at No. 48 in the latest ITA Rankings.
Torch's Take
"The Hogs are a perrenial power in the SEC and will be a major challenge," head coach Paul Torricelli said. "We always have great matches with them and we will have to play our best tennis Friday night."
"We've had a very good week of practice and I know that the guys are eager to rebound from last Sunday's loss to Wake Forest," Torricelli said.
Hawaiian Shirt Night

Northwestern Notes
• The doubles pair of Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico) and Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium LohbrÜgge) have posted a 4-2 record in dual meets. They are 3-0 when playing at the No. 3 spot.
• Freshman Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) is enjoying a solid start to his first dual season as a Wildcat. Sanborn has a 4-2 dual record in singles playing mostly at No. 6.
• The 'Cats will play their final match of a seven-match homestand to start the 2007 dual schedule. Prominant foes such as Louisville, Wake Forest and Pepperdine have already visted Combe Tennis Center and top teams such as Mississippi will visit later this season.
• The 'Cats split their opening weekend against DePaul and No. 29 Louisville. NU topped DePaul, 6-1, and their match against the 29th-ranked Cardinals came down to the final match. Louisville captured a third-set tiebreaker in the final match to take the 4-3 win. The 'Cats split their second weekend of play with a 5-2 win over Ball State before falling to defending national champion Pepperdine. Northwestern split its third-straight weekend with a 6-1 win over San Diego before falling to No. 24 Wake Forest.
• The ITA released its regional rankings on December 8, 2006 and two Wildcats appear in the Midwest singles top-30. Tempke is No. 19 and senior Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) sits at No. 30. In doubles, the pair of Lock and fellow senior Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) are the sixth-ranked tandem in the region. Lock and Christian are the nation's 27th-ranked doubles team.
