EVANSTON, Ill. -- -- Three Wildcats earned Big Ten Conference honors, the conference office announced Wednesday. Senior forward Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) earned her third career All-Big Ten second team honor, midfielder Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) was named to the All-Big Ten second team for the second time in her career and midfielder Jennifer Baumann (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
Schneeman also received the Big Ten Sportsmanship honor for the Wildcats.
This year marks the 14th-consecutive year Northwestern has placed at least one member on the Big Ten's first and/or second teams. Baumann becomes the sixth Wildcat to receive All-Freshman team honors. When Schneeman and Hans both captured All-Big Ten honors in 2004, it was the last time NU had two selections.
Schneeman is enjoying the best offensive season of her career and has nine goals and two assists to total 20 points on the campaign. She is second on the team in shots with 47 and has a team-leading five game-winning goals. She scored two goals against UNC-Greensboro early in the season and she notched her fifth game-winner in the Wildcats 3-0 win over Wisconsin to close the regular season.
Hans is tied with Schneeman for the team lead in goals with nine and she leads the Wildcats in points with 22. Her four assists match a career high and give her a tie for the team lead. Earlier this season, Hans scored her 30th career goal to pass head coach Stephanie Erickson for NU's all-time lead in goals. She would take over NU's all-time career points record from Erickson.
Baumann has started 18-of-19 games for the Wildcats in the midfield and has made an immediate impact in her freshman season. Baumann sits with a goal and four assists. She registered her fourth assist on Schneeman's goal against Wisconsin to end the regular season.
Schneeman also earned the sportsmanship award for the Wildcats this season for the second-straight year.
NU takes on second-seeded Purdue in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament Thursday at 5 p.m. Visit Minnesota's Big Ten Tournament Page for results and news.
