EVANSTON, Ill. -- Craig Moore had 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead Northwestern to a 95-63 rout over Division III Benedictine on Tuesday night.
Jeff Ryan scored a team- and career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting for the Wildcats. NU set team bests under eighth-year head coach Bill Carmody with their 95 points, 36 field goals and 32 assists. Freshman Michael Thompson posted a career-best seven assists.
Jason Okrzesik had a career-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting for the Wildcats (1-2). Freshman Mike Capocci added a career-high 12 points, seven steals and six assists as the Wildcats hit 61 percent of their shots and were 10-for-23 on 3-pointers.
Dan Klecan scored a season-high 22 and hit six 3-point shots for Benedictine (1-2), which never led.
Antonio Brooks had a career-high 13 points off the bench for the Eagles. Jared Bailey added seven points and a career-best 10 assists.
Northwestern started strong and took a 18-3 lead on Okrzesik's 3-pointer with 12:46 left in the first half. Okrzesik connected on all five of his first-half shot attempts, including three 3-pointers, while Moore made five shots from beyond the arc prior to the intermission.
The teams combined to hit 18 3-pointers in the first half, as the Wildcats took a 52-30 lead into the break.
Northwestern opened the second half on a 16-3 run and took the biggest lead of the game, 79-40, with 9:59 remaining. Ten of the 11 players who saw playing time got in the scoring column for the Wildcats who held a 34-20 rebounding advantage. Northwestern also had a dominating edge of 51-12 in points in the paint.
NU returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday when it hosts Brown at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The contest will be televised live by Big Ten Network.
