EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern stormed back from a three-goal deficit to force overtime on Sunday against Providence, but could not stop the Friars from putting away the game winner with 2:11 left in overtime for the 4-3 win at Lakeside Field.

Providence (9-5, 1-1) opened the contest with three-straight goals leading into the second half, which put the Friars up by a score of 3-0 in the 49th minute. The 'Cats (3-8, 0-3) then came back with a sense of ugency and put the first goal on the board following a penalty corner on a blast by Alison Bullock (Boyds, Md./Stone Ridge), assisted by Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Ky./Kentucky County Day). The goal was her fifth of the season, which ties Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) for a team-high.

Six minutes after Bullock's strike, Plaster-Strange received a pass from Cassie Miller (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), which she promptly put in the back of the cage past the helpless keeper. Plaster-Strange was not finished yet, as the 'Cats fought back down the field on the ensuing possession and won a penalty corner that led to Plaster-Strange's second goal of the day.

The goal gave Plaster-Strange her third in the past two games and tied the score, 3-3, which it remained as time expired in regulation.

In the seven-on-seven overtime session, the 'Cats played for five minutes with just six players as Miller got sent out with a yellow card. The card was the 'Cats second of the game as Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) received one earlier in the second half, as well.

With just 2:11 left on the clock, Ali Shover of Providence found the loose ball in front of the Northwestern cage and put it past Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) for the 4-3 overtime victory.

Kyle had replaced Katie Lynch (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) just after Plaster-Strange's first goal of the day and played brilliantly in the net, making three sprawling saves for NU.

Northwestern travels west next weekend to take on Stanford and California on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
