EVANSTON, Ill.-- A defensive struggle turned into a 2-1 loss for Northwestern on Sunday at California in their second game in as many days.
California's (9-4) Jennifer Crane put the Golden Bears on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal in the seventh minute of the game, but sophomore Liz Dobbs (Wellesley, Mass./St. Ignatius (San Francisco)) knotted the score for the 'Cats (4-9) in the 20th minute with her first goal of the year after receiving a pass from Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown).
Junior Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) made five saves on the day and kept Northwestern tied until Christina McGrath found the back of the cage before the end of the half for the final score of the game.
Quinn's assist gave her 15 points on the year (5 goals, 5 assists), which leads the team.
The road trip marked the first time of the year that the 'Cats played games on back-to-back days and was their first trip to the west coast since 1998. NU returns home on to play its final two games at Lakeside Field on Friday.
