EVANSTON, Ill.-- On a blustery day at Lakeside Field, Northwestern fell to Ohio State, 3-0, on Friday.
OSU's Linda Haussener provided all three goals for the Buckeyes (6-10) in the affair, the first of which coming just 38 seconds before halftime. Haussener then score her final two goals in the 41st minute and 49th minute to provide the three-goal margin.
Northwestern's (4-10) Courtney Plaster-Strange (Hodgenville, Kent./Kentucky Country Day), coming off a two-goal weekend, fired three shots on the cage, but couldn't sneak one past the Buckeyes' keeper.
NU earned seven penalty corners in the contest and attempted nine shots, two of which were turned away. Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) kept the 'Cats in the contest for most of the game with her six saves. The Wildcats were also aided by a defensive save from defender Katie Charles (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), who knocked the ball away from danger as Kyle rebounded from the first shot that sent her sprawling out for the save.
Northwestern played most of the second half minus starting midfielder Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield), who was unable to return after a collision at midfield.
Senior day marks the final home game for the 'Cats this season at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Michigan.
