EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will take to the road for the third time in the last four games when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for a 1:30 p.m. showdown with Minnesota Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats have won five in a row over the Gophers, including the last two at Williams Arena.

The Wildcats have played their last two games without the services of leading scorer Kevin Coble (12.1 ppg) who suffered a sprained left ankle in the game at Michigan State Jan. 10. He is listed as day-to-day and will be a game-time decision for Saturday.

The Gophers enter the game with a 7-11 record and 1-3 mark in the Big Ten--their lone win coming at home against Purdue Jan. 3, 65-59. Minnesota also is feeling the effects of the injury bug, playing without the services of starting center Spencer Tollackson (12.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) who is out with a broken left hand.

A Northwestern Win Would ...

  • Give the Wildcats their sixth straight win over Minnesota.
  • Mark the first time the Wildcats have won six straight over the Gophers since winning 10 in a row from 1927-34.
  • Give NU its third consecutive win at Williams Arena in as many years.
  • Improve Bill Carmody to 7-4 all-time against Minnesota.

    Moore Leads Returnees vs. Gophers
Sophomore Craig Moore averaged 12.0 ppg in two wins last season against Minnesota. In the win at Williams Arena, Moore had his best game of the season, connecting on 5-of-7 3-pointers for 15 points. He then added nine points on three treys in the 57-53 home win over the Gophers.

    Doyle On Record-Setting Pace
With 98 assists, senior Tim Doyle is on pace to break Northwestern's single-season record for assists which currently stands at 154 (Patrick Baldwin, 1994). With his 5.44 apg average, he is on pace for 170 by season's end. Last year he became just the sixth player in Northwestern history to record at least 200 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in the same season. He is on pace to duplicate that feat again this year.

    About The Gophers
Minnesota (7-11, 1-3) is led by interim head coach Jim Molinari who replaced Dan Monson after his resignation after the Clemson game -- 11 games ago. Since taking over the team the Gophers are 5-6. Junior guard Lawrence McKenzie leads Minnesota and is sixth in the Big Ten in scoring with 15.8 ppg, including 17 in the loss to Illinois on Wednesday. Junior forward Dan Coleman is second with 15.1 ppg and seventh in the conference.
