KENOSHA, Wis. -- With nine Wildcat swimmers in action in Dallas, Texas, for the Dallas Morning News Swimming and Diving Classic, the remainder of the Northwestern squad traveled to Carthage College for a dual meet Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats bested the Red Men, 118-77.
After Northwestern won the 200 medley relay to begin the meet, Daniel Walls (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) won the 1,000 free with a season-best 9:42.05. Andy Long (Racine, Wis./J.I. Case) was second with a 9:48.71.
In the 200 free, freshman Chris Doman (Pittsburgh, Pa./St. Charles Prep (Ohio)) won with a time of 1:43.78, followed by teammate Jimmy Sourbeer (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) in second with a 1:44.89.
Junior Charlie Cunnick (Davenport, Iowa/Davenport Central) captured the 50 free with a 21.99 before Alex Hostoffer (Cleveland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Jake Vogel (Canton, Ill./Canton) went first and second in the 200 IM. Hostoffer swam a 1:54.99, out-touching Vogel by .06 seconds.
Bryan Pinkston (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) and Long took the top two spots in the 200 fly, with Pinkston swimming a 1:57.84 and Long a 1:59.00.
Sourbeer and Doman flopped spots from the 200 when they swept the 100 free, this time with Sourbeer (47.78) in first and Doman (48.58) in second.
Vogel led a 1-2-3 Wildcat finish in the 200 back, swimming a first-place time of 1:54.37 to beat out teammates Eric Simpson (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) in second (1:55.28) and Alexander Hayden (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) in third (2:02.57).
Walls and Long swept their second distance event in the 500 free, with Walls finishing first in 4:43.35 and Long in second with a 4:48.74. Hostoffer then swam the fastest time in the 200 breast with a 2:04.57 to conclude the individual events.
The Wildcats closed the meet with the quickest 400 free relay time of 3:15.62.
