EVANSTON, Ill. --Looking to build on a solid second half against Iowa State on Sunday, the Wildcats continue their long home stand when they host two opponents that they have never faced. The 'Cats will take on the Morehead State Eagles from the Ohio Valley Conference and Ball State of the Mid-American Conference. Northwestern has dropped its last three contests after winning their season-opener against DePaul.
Junior Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) recorded six shots over the two games last weekend. Hans leads the 'Cats in shots in 2006 with 15, 10 of those have been on goal. NU recorded 17 total shots against Iowa State on Sunday, including four on goal in a one-minute span, but could not break through and fell to the Cyclones 1-0.
This is the Wildcats' second full weekend of their nine-game home stand. Northwestern still has one more non-conference home weekend before it opens the Big Ten season with home matches against Iowa and Illinois.
Scouting the Eagles
Morehead State dropped two games last weekend to Delaware and George Washington at the Thundering Herd Nike Invitational in Huntington, W.Va. The Eagles, coached by former Wildcat Erin Aubrey, have two goals in four games, one by junior Rebekah Kendall and the other by freshman Abby Doyle.
Scouting the Cardinals
Ball State is 1-1-2 on the year and is back in the Midwest after playing the Hilton Garden Inn Mountain Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz. Last weekend. The Cardinals fell to Portland State 2-1 on Friday and fought to a scoreless tie with Indiana State on Sunday. Seven different players have scored their seven goals on the year.
