DAYTON, Ohio-- Northwestern fell to Dayton 5-1 Sunday afternoon in its only exhibition match before the regular season begins Friday at DePaul. Sophomore Krystal Patterson (St. Louis, Mo./Shiloh (Ga.)) netted Northwestern's lone goal at the 19:24 mark of the first half.

The Flyers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring four goals in the first 18 minutes. Dayton forward Caitlin Profit scored three first half goals to record the hat trick. The 'Cats got on the board in the 20th minute when sophomore Jenny Dunn (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Louisville) found some space in the offensive zone and placed a crossing pass on the foot of fellow sophomore Patterson who found the back of the net for the goal.

Northwestern's defense clamped down in the second half and held the Flyers scoreless on seven shots.

"It felt great to get out on the field and play someone other than ourselves," head coach Stephanie Erickson said. "We definitely improved as the game went on and I saw a lot of promising and hopeful things in terms of our organization."

The Wildcats begin their regular season at 5 p.m. on Friday with a match at DePaul.
